This Tuesday and to start the year off on the right foot, do not miss the discussion organized by the GCSP and UNIDIR on International Disarmament Treaties: Trends and Lessons Learned . The event will explore questions such as:

What are the trends to be drawn from the existing disarmament instruments and recent developments? Are there lessons regarding which elements should be in a disarmament treaty from a legal perspective? What works, what does not, and what are inherent dilemmas? And how does this fit with international humanitarian law and other regulations related to weapons?

Meanwhile in New York, the Group of Governmental Experts on ammunition stockpiles will meet for the first time. The group was set up to explore the problems arising from the accumulation of conventional ammunition stockpiles. See this report providing some background information on the key issues and taking into account the informal consultations held in 2018 and 2019.

In Brussels, NATO’s Military Committee in Chiefs of Defense Session is scheduled to take place on 14 and 15 January to discuss the outcomes of the Summit held last December and to provide guidance for the development of necessary requirements to implement measures agreed then.
