What’s on in Geneva this week? (23-27 September)

In the past few days, climate change marches happened worldwide, eighteen Nobel Peace Laureates released a joint statement in support of youth-led climate strike. The Climate Action Summit of the UN Secretary General will be held on 23 September at the UN headquarters. This will be followed by the UN General Assembly high-level debate from 24-30 September.  Still in New York, the 11th Conference on facilitating the entry into force of the  Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) will take place on 25 September. Lastly, a high-level signature/ratification for the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons will take place at the UN headquarters on 26 September -as of today, 70 states have signed the treaty (this includes 26 ratifications) – and will mark the International Day for the Total elimination of Nuclear Weapons.

Meanwhile in Vienna, the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will meet on 23 September.
